Familia Nicolau Vineyards
THE STORY
Our wines reflect our love for the soil, the vines, and the ecosystem surrounding our vineyards. They capture the complexity of our farming practices, our soils, the proximity to the Atlantic, and our mild climate. In the winery, we use low-intervention winemaking to let these unique elements shine through, offering a memorable experience for those who taste them!

Love for
the soil
Familia Nicolau wines are a true expression of our love for the soil, the vines, and the natural ecosystem that sustains our vineyards. Nestled in the hills of Serra de Montejunto near Portugal’s Atlantic coast, our vineyards thrive under a mild climate and unique calcareous clay soils. Founded as Afonso & Nicolau – Vinhos, Lda in 2018, we took on the challenge of shifting from conventional farming to regenerative organic practices to revive our land and preserve it for future generations.
Our 10 hectares of Organic Certified vineyards reflect a dedication to low-intervention winemaking, allowing the nuances of our terroir to shine through in each bottle.
We use regenerative methods like animal integration, composting, cover cropping, and precision-based plant nutrition to restore soil health, conserve water, and foster biodiversity.
Our careful selection of native grape varieties, well-adapted to our region, ensures premium wines of remarkable character and quality.
Familia Nicolau is not only committed to creating exceptional wines but also to inspiring sustainable practices in our community. By working with nature, we aim to cultivate a resilient future and a legacy of exceptional wine.
